Though I think there needs to be a bit of education about how to actually handle discourse in this country.

Lawyers know that when they can't argue facts (science), to start bringing emotion into things. Once emotion is at play, people generally stop listening to facts and you can pretty much spoon feed then any inanity you want. The same goes for most of the hot-button issues in the country. Climate change - they are coming for your jobs. Transgender - they want to let boys use girls bathrooms. Fair living wages, Child support - they want to give money to people to not work.

This is the evil that Faux News does each and every day.

Those who are hijacking the discourse are appealing to emotion, not facts. We've tried facts, especially dealing with this worldwide pandemic, and the truth has fallen on deaf ears. We need to take a page from their playbook and change tactics if we're ever going to turn things around.

IMHO - There are tactics for getting people engaged again - but we can't start with facts, but with asking questions and getting them to respond. This is how a single black man was able to convince 30+ Klansmen to leave the Klan. Not by challenging people, but by asking them questions.

I think that is one approach, I'm sure there are others.

Which is unfortunate since we're experiencing emergencies on many fronts, particularly the pandemic and climate change, but civil and voting rights and especially the strength of our democracy are right up there.

Which is the problem in a nutshell.

Once everything is couched in terms of sales-speak, some slick douche-nozzle turns scientific discovery into monetized mass-murder.

Notice how it's always WAY too expensive to do anything about how fast we are destroying the planet?

You done been "out-marketed"!
