(205,467 posts)I still believe Putin wants to recreate the former USSR - but it makes no sense that the Russian people would want to return to those repressive times. When I was there, they welcomed Gorbachev's progressive policies - not to mention that it also makes no sense that they'd want to return to a time of war after the horrors they experienced during WWII. And this is a war of Putin's choice.

Gives me hope someone will remove him from power! 1🤞🤞🤞

(22,133 posts)soldiers. That's the sad thing about this whole mess, that a spoiled brat (putin) with all of his stolen billions, is having a temper tantrum because Ukraine wouldn't roll over and do his bidding.

(205,467 posts)Went with my grandmother and her peace group, they had a "sister town" there. We were actually scheduled to visit Kiev, but then Chernobyl happened. And there was such hope under Gorbachev's progressive policies, not to mention the statues everywhere as reminders of the horror Russia experienced during WWII. The last thing they need is another war - a war of Putin's choice in his quest to recreate the former USSR...

(205,467 posts)But I couldn't say no to my Nana. And it was a wonderful group, experienced world travelers dedicated to peace and we met with numerous like minded Russian groups, truly the trip of a lifetime. Having experienced the horrors of war, those we met never wanted to face it again. I still remember one older lady who had served as a nurse during WWII - and she said "Please, when you go back, tell your president that we want peace." *sigh*
