(6,844 posts)It's especially difficult for those who insist on viewing the world through "Victorian" or Czarist era lenses.
Curious about why the GQP and the Russian oligarchy seem so aligned? The answer lies in the fantasies which some have about the mid 19th century. Though there is a line to be drawn, I suppose, connecting the antebellum south with universal serfdom.
It's the single biggest challenge the GQP has, convincing everyone that time stopped with the shelling of Ft Sumter. So much re-education to do and so little time.

(218 posts)Going to look up Hagar Chimali's "Oh my World" podcast.
edit: I did take a look, expecting a kinda boring treasury official taking about interest rate swaps values and such. Much different. She has a fun sense of humor and is not what one would expect. Refreshing!

(1,755 posts)I think what they do is make us feel like we're doing something for Ukraine, Bosnia, Venezuela, Iran, Iraq, N Korea, Cuba, etc. There have been VERY few successes with sanctions and those only worked against small countries with a limited economy.
