Rhiannon, from my extensive military experience having been a Cav Scout for 3 years it is my acute assessment that the entire Russian Army ran out of gas. Vehicular and personally.
You cant beat motivation. 🇺🇦

(45,774 posts)That same month in March 2003 McCain was parroting the Bush administrations rosy talk, repeating on many occasions that we will be greeted as liberators. Cheney and the administration ignored numerous pre-war intelligence analyses which warned that the U.S. would face armed resistance from Iraqis following the fall of Saddam Husseins regime.

I recall Vietnam vets thinking the Vietnamese would welcome them with open arms showering them with flowers and kisses like the French did for soldiers in WW2.
Iraq war vets thought Iraqis would love them for liberating them and giving them democracy.
Seems to be an historical pattern when it comes to war ...

(5,214 posts)peace time diplomacy from heavily armed soldiers who fire at everything that moves, an abstract concept like Democracy doesn't hold much power.
Doesn't matter what war, what country, who is holding the guns.
The Good Guys are the unarmed civilians, the Bad Guys are the ones with the guns and the abstract reasons for their presence in a country foreign to them.
Simple enough concept, surely?

(7,759 posts)is Putin in the throes of early Alzheimer's?...I ask because it's not uncommon for Alzheimer's patients to remember the past but not the present...and does he not understand the internet?...young people don't watch television (state controlled)..they live online..while Putin is speaking of "peacekeepers" the video shows bombs dropping, people running for their lives...
