6. What they are doing is reminiscent of Sherman's

Civil War campaign when he went from Atlanta to Savannah. He not only didn't have supplies coming from the rear, he tore up the railroad tracks behind him as he went. His army lived off the farms along the way. They killed every farm animal for food and left a scorched path behind them.

The only difference is the Russians aren't destroying all the infrastructure in their path. I think Putin wants to take Ukraine as intact as possible. But they are taking what they can find for supplies.
