If Putin destroys Ukrainian cities and installs a puppet government, there will be a growing insurgency for years to come. Russia will pay a heavy cost in blood and treasure until it finally withdraws. An attempt to occupy Ukraine will make Afghanistan look like a picnic.

For the simple reason that the Ukrainians are vastly outmanned and outgunned with Russian fire power. This war could indeed be a very, very costly and destructive one for Ukraine, even if they eventually win it. But what I also think is that Putin, and his regime back home in Russia, might wind up paying the highest price of all, and it's not too much of a stretch to say that it might eventually topple his regime. And this is probably the main part of the miscalculation that President Biden spoke of in his State of the Union address. So just remember what I have said here as you tally up all the wins and losses for both sides.

He will say this is what will happen if you join NATO.
He is in a cash crunch. He's the trepidatious manager of zillions of rubles.
He doesn't want to die, let us hope.
