(4,356 posts)1. Uzhhorod is a very important cultural city/area
for Western Ukrainians. The Lemko, Boyko's, Carpatho Rusyns and others are settled in and around. Beautiful area nestled among the Carpathian mountains. Putin wants to literally killl the cultural heritage here and in all of Ukraine.
It's obvious, he says Ukrainians are Russian too. To prove this bizarre point, he has to destroy the ancient cultures of areas like Uzhhorod.

(4,356 posts)3. I have some distant connections to the
Northern side of the Carpathians. One memory I have as a child is enjoying what a great aunt baked and called a Karpatka. That's the Polish spelling/pronunciation for a cake that resembles the snow capped Carpathians. I found the recipe online a while ago. I would love to taste it again!!

Edited--I found recipes. Ooh. Scrumptious! Our Carpatho-Rusyn women folk love to describe yummy food with that word. 😉
Why not post this cake in the cooking/baking group. 😋
