(111,157 posts)Big money and power brokers were always uncomfortable with TFG, a big talker who wanted to be a member of the club but who really wasn't, his paper wealth offset by debt to Russian mobsters.
So they're just being true to form, closing ranks now that he's no longer useful to them. The problem is that the party did too good a job. The evangelical Christians, for instance, are still solidly in TFG's camp, most of them regarding him not as a politician but as a demigod, Jebus's spokesman on earth. These people are their largest voting bloc and these people are not going to change any time soon. No, they don't listen to reason, not now, not ever. Goldwater had them pegged. They will not compromise.
The 2024 convention will be worth watching, the fundagelicals butting heads with the pragmatists, TFG smirking in the wings.
However, I still say we should have trussed him up and flown him to Moscow on AF2, rolled him down an emergency chute onto the tarmac, cut the chute free, closed up and taken off. Putin wanted him so badly that we should have let Putin have him.
