Agreed. He's gone too far and feels he cannot back down. Rhiannon12866 Mar 2022 #2

Who would sign an agreement with Putin now? He's broken all treaties and agreements. Eyeball_Kid Mar 2022 #5
He likely thought this would be relatively easy, in his mind Ukraine is still part of the USSR Rhiannon12866 Mar 2022 #6

We are at the whim of a madman who is isolated from our direct influence.

There will have to be something akin to a contingency contract. But I don't know if that's possible. No one can take anything for granted with this madman.

All Russian military will have to evacuate before ANY agreement is reached, IMO.

Russia will have to make reparations for the extensive damage to property and people. Putin will have to be subject to a War Crimes Tribunal. None of his behavior can be acceptable. He's a war criminal and must be treated as such. The military must be held to account for attacking civilians. And that's still going on right now.

Putin must have thought that he could bully his way into reforming the USSR. He wanted the old group of nations under his control. Did he fail, or what? And does he yet know that he failed?

He not only failed to anticipate the resistance of the Ukrainian people - and that the entire Western World would rally behind them. So he's getting desperate and that makes him extremely dangerous, it's possible to know what he'll do next. He's already proven that his word is no good and at this point it's impossible to anticipate where his desperation will take him.
