(54,057 posts)I think Putin made a grave error in judgment in thinking he was better off subjugating a neighbor by armed force than living with a healthy, food-producing trading partner on his doorstep.**
The Ides of March is next Tuesday, so he may not suffer Cæsars fate to the day, but he is going to have to do some serious convincing of some powerful people near him that he deserves to stay in power despite the debacle he has caused. The people from whom he has the most to fear dont live in Washington or Kyiv, but rather in Moscow and SPB.
**of course, Ive thought the same thing about the Middle East for 50 years, and they still seem to prefer killing each other to my idea, so dont assume Im right about any of this!

(3,340 posts)Anyone who has read Churchill's biography will understand how far GW is from even cleaning Churchill's shoes. The only thing they can be compared with is their drinking habits, although I think Churchill drunk more, he could stand it better than GW who fell while eating pretzels because he was too drunk, but blamed it on the pretzels.
