5 West Point Cadets Overdose During Spring Break in Florida, Officials Say
The cadets, along with another young man, were exposed to what is believed to be cocaine laced with fentanyl, and two were on ventilators late Friday, officials said.

Five West Point cadets were among six young men on spring break who overdosed this week on what was believed to be fentanyl laced with cocaine at a rental home in Wilton Manors, Fla., officials said Friday.

When the local police arrived at the home around 5 p.m. Thursday, two bystanders were performing CPR on two unconscious men on the lawn, Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said in an interview. Two others were unconscious inside the house, he added.

The two bystanders had not used the substance, but they also went into cardiac arrest because of their exposure from performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Chief Gollan said.

Emergency medical workers administered the anti-overdose medication Narcan, a brand-name version of naloxone, Chief Gollan said. All six men were taken to local hospitals, and as of Friday night, two were in critical condition and on ventilators, he said. One man remained in stable condition, and the other three had been released from the hospital, he said.

A West Point spokeswoman confirmed that five of the six men are cadets. “The U.S. Military Academy is aware of the incident involving West Point cadets” that occurred Thursday evening and is being investigated, she said in a statement. No other details were available, she added.

They will be expelled and the government often goes back to recover the costs of their education.

become poisoned also just by giving them CPR. Best just to do chest compressions nowadays.

That Fentanyl stuff is scary. I'd be afraid to buy any illegal drugs on the street now.

(Not that I ever felt comfortable enough to do it in the past)

What were they thinking..don’t they get drug tested? Don’t they realize what an honor it was to be in their position? West Point is not a summer camp..what the hell is going on with some people?

Either can produce PTSD. How stressful, then, is it to be engaged in both at the same time? And I gather human brains don't fully mature until about the age of 25 (if then ... and some never do,) I can only see this as a sad loss for our nation.
