Law expert predicts when Putin will be indicted for war crimes

David Scheffer, the former US Ambassador-at-large for War Crime Issues, believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be indicted on war crimes charges in "2 or 3 months" because Putin could stop the atrocities in Ukraine or punish those committing them and is choosing not to do either.

Don't hold your breath. You could try Putin in absentia and sentence him to eternity in hell, but you still can't get to him unless the Russian people allow it. The Russians should deal with him before he destroys them. That is the real solution to this present crisis. All it takes is one man on his security team that is willing to give his life to save his country.

I am still fascinated at how one single man can put the entire world in critical danger and that the people let him get away with it. WTF is wrong with us?

It will do nothing to stop Putin. What it does do is put into place legal cover for other, more critical options, and it also implicates his cronies by association. It denies Putin protection from extradition. If he dies by a foreign attack or assassin, this exonerates the assassin.

These are legal terms with legal ramifications.

"... The International Criminal Court has full jurisdiction over Ukraine in this matter for the investigation.
39 countries referred it to the ICC legitimately. When he's indicted, and when the generals are indicted, the sanctions that have been imposed upon Russia, the most severe in history, will not be lifted until two things happen:
1. the Russian military withdraws from Ukraine and Ukraine restores its territorial integrity and sovereignty, and
2. Putin and the indicted generals, the indicted fugitives from justice, are surrendered to the Hague.

It would be implausible for the sanctions to be lifted until that happens. This is exactly what we did in the Balkans with Milosovic, Keradic, Mlodic. We kept the sanctions on Serbia until they were surrendered. And I see no basis to think that European countries or even the United States and Canada will tolerate them not being surrendered. Those sanctions will be in place until they are surrendered. "

the naysayers did not bother to view the video. What would they advise, despair and doing nothing? I think not, we do all we can is the solution.

which is why I'm also a big fan of transcripts of speeches, because we then have an easier look for quotes and information from experts' and leaders' mouths.
