(6,703 posts)It's no coincidence that the initial change of tone in America's "news" services, the birth of Fox News, coincided with the first gulf war and the military's control of media access, format and, thus, message. We're seeing a flow of information guided by practical mobility and newsworthiness for a change. There are at least 2 generations who've never seen this sort of war coverage from American journalists. Reporting NOT restricted and screened through American military command seems like a fresh approach.
Yes....finally we get to see the results of "Shock and Awe" and what it does to real people and their country. War is not a fancy fireworks game.

(6,703 posts)I've been wincing about that since 1990. That kind of propaganda is a tell. It reveals an inherent weakness on the part of the sponsoring governmental system and a burgeoning dissipation in the society of a nation. It also shows up when it becomes an unspoken rule that every elected official must be seen wearing a flag pin on their dark suit coat. Or when residential streets are littered with flags that are never taken down at night or in inclement weather.
Now we are to coexist with fools who think driving their truck in circles to create traffic mayhem is equivalent to refighting Lexington and Concord.
