3. As usual, Trump is making a big splash to try and distract from the obvious question of why Putin

...DID NOT sanction Trump. If Trump was so tough on Russia, why didn't Putin sanction him? Why did Putin sanction Hunter Biden? To give a boost to Fox News and the counter narratives they're spinning. Too bad it was so clumsily done that nobody but Trump supporters, and Fox News viewers are the only ones dumb enough to fall for it. Preaching to the choir, it gains them nothing.

So, Putin refrains from sanctioning Trump, sending the obvious message that they're on the same side. That scares trump, so he doubles down with the distraction, and starts talking about Hunter Biden.

This is the equivalent of when Trump got caught with the Access Hollywood tape, so he doubles down, and invites Bill Clinton's rape accusers to the debate right after the Access Hollywood tape was released. That's his style. Make an even more outrageous spectacle, to distract from the real one.
