I know that not everyone here has cable - or even TV - not to mention doesn't stay up as late as I do, so I post the late night shows for them. And when Bill Maher was previously posted, it was always with a warning that it would disappear, so I started posting the "official" videos which will be available next week or next year.

(63,221 posts)I kind of know after being around for so long who is the "regular poster" of which shows. This was a pretty good one over all! He got a little preachy in New Rules, which is usually very funny, but I hate it when he goes off on "PC" culture. He does have a point in some instances, but he just sounds too much like a right winger in others.
Anyway, thanks again for posting!

(111,237 posts)and that some people out there can't be arsed to pull the mask up and down just because he's passing by.
I agree with him about The Loser Channel and Atrocious & Egregious. I'm also a card carrying ACLU member who thinks the ACLU needs to defend speech that offends marginalized groups. That means having some bullshit parade waving offensive signs around doesn't get you sent to jail, and that alone. It doesn't mean you won't get pelted with a rotten egg or ten, you just won't go to jail.
So go ahead and offend, peabrains. Just don't go crying to the cops because I'm a lefty.

(205,132 posts)Sometimes I think he misses "Politically Incorrect" where there was a lot more disagreement. He still occasionally has a right-leaning guest, but they aren't popular with his audience and Bill hasn't had much luck in persuading them (Geraldo).
And I also agreed with "New Rules," there is little history on the History Channel. The thing I try to remember is that Bill is a comedian. Most of his recent "New Rules" have been spot on, but they also have to be funny.

(63,221 posts)I don't get cable, but I have occassionally watched it in other places and I TOTALLY agree with him on History Channel, A&E, etc. Those channels are a joke. I might even subscribe to them if they actually showed real history or the arts instead of the garbage that they have on there now.
Also, I don't totally think he was wrong on a lot of that stuff, but can't he find something else in this insane country to mock instead of PC culture?

(205,132 posts)What I'm referring to is Bill dismissing the vaccine - but fortunately he had Max Brooks on the panel to disagree with him. And we know that Bill had Covid, he missed a couple of shows because he was required to quarantine. And, according to him, he had no symptoms. That's undoubtedly the reason for his dismissive attitude, but why does he think he didn't get really sick and had no lasting effects? Max Brooks is always a favorite guest...

(63,221 posts)I liked hearing from the nuclear expert as well, but for some reason, he just didn't seem to be quite serious enough to me for such a heavy, important subject. He kind of lacked gravitas.

(205,132 posts)I particularly try to post the late night shows since they're often available much later - and I know that a lot of DUers don't stay up as late as I do, not to mention those who don't have cable - or even TV. And I post what I watch, so I figure that my friends on DU will likely be interested, too.

(31,156 posts)Brooks is a great guest -- adds deep insight, not a regurgitation of the usual talking points we already all know. Plus, he's succinct.
Green Real Deal -- first time I've heard of this. But I've always been in the same camp. Fossil fuels have to be part of the future energy equation, let's just eliminate as much of it as possible. Nuclear? Our opinions of its safety are based on technology that is ancient by tech standards. We're going to have build more plants, but with 21st century technology.
Thanks for posting, Rhiannon12866!

(205,132 posts)But you know that Bill likes outspoken guests, fortunately Max Brooks is one of the best kind - he's one of my favorite guests, too, very smart and also funny, no big surprise!
And when I posted this week's guests, I recognized Max Brooks, but as soon as I saw Ernest Moniz, I recognized him immediately, LOL. And I'd never heard of the Green Real Deal, either - I've never been a fan of nuclear, but he obviously know exactly what he's talking about and has plans for what we need to do now - and in the future. He wasn't the most entertaining guest, but his interview was packed with important information.

(12,419 posts)Nobody brought up the obvious response to "corporations shouldn't have to take political stands": they are already taking them! but quietly, almost anonymously, with their political contributions and their lobbying.
Rhiannon12866
(205,132 posts)But he was still my favorite guest of the night (no surprise) when he differed quite strongly with Bill on the vaccine issue. Bill said it was the player's "right" not to be vaccinated and Max said exactly what needed to be said - that others' rights not to be infected with Covid supersede his. I don't understand Bill's attitude regarding vaccinations (which he certainly got) and masks, unless he's only going by his lack of symptoms and still resents his mandated quarantine that caused him to miss two shows and cancel part of his stand up tour. Kudos to Max Brooks for standing up for that even if they all missed the fact that corporations already are taking political stands by contributions and lobbying.
