IMO this should not have been made public. Doing so endangered his life and made it less likely that he could be part of a successful internal resistance.

(8,043 posts)The fact that a disclosure like this is so unusual hopefully means this was a highly calculated move.
It may in fact make him and his associates more likely to be receptive to some sort of internal resistance. If this report is true, and the result is that it puts a target on his back, this may motivate him and others around him to consider their options.
A major motivation of the July 20 conspirators to move against Hitler was that they knew that Gestapo and Nazi counterintelligence was moving against them and arrests were already underway. It was literally a case of do or die--sadly they mostly died anyway.
