Related: About this forumUkraine hates Belarus now. This is how they sent off the belarusian ambassador leaving Ukraine:
When the belarusian ambassador was leaving Ukraine on March 18th, the Major-General of the ukrainian border-guard asked him to take a present with him and to present it to his counterpart in the belarusian military: literally a bag with 30 pieces of silver.
I recently read an interview in a russian newspaper, where belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko insisted that Belarus is neutral in the Russia-Ukraine-war. I don't think that the Ukrainians see it that way.
Russia loves to blame the West for destroying the grand community of the russian ethnicities: Breaking the russian people up into 3 separate countries when the Soviet Union collapsed. Russia, Belarus, Ukraine.
Putin has done more damage to the russian peoples, russian culture, russian society, than the West ever could have done. Ukraine, the historical and spiritual heartland of the russian peoples since the year 900 AD, has broken up for good with Belarus and Russia.
It cannot possibly be understated how MONUMENTAL this break-up is in terms of slavic history. The only passable comparison I can think of is the seccession of the british colonies of North-America from the British Empire.

(111,257 posts)Lukashenko is the longest serving dictator in Europe right now and he's achieved that longevity by walking a fine line, knuckling under to whatever thug was running Russia while making sure things in Belarus more or lesss were running correctly. By that, I mean things like mass transity, trash pickup, alll the nitty gritty stuff..
Belarus is considerably smaller than Ukraine, 9 million people to their 44 million, so they were between a rock and a hard place when Russia told them they were going to be a staging area. Likely they hoped until the last minute that Putin wasn't lying about just having some training exercises.
The braakup isn't permanent, only until Lukashenko is packed off to Moscow followed by a hail of brickbats. Remember, Belarus workers sabotaged the signaling and switches on their side of the rail supply line. That will count for a lot when regime change finally happens.
Russia isn't going to be destroyed. Putin won't live forever and there will be a reckoning at some point of much of what he and his family and childhood buddies stole from that country. He's unlikely to be remembered fondly and maybe they'll be a little smarter about reelecting authoritarians who have outstayed their usefulness.
However, no, Biden was just there at the right time and hasn't managed to screw anything up.
This made clap then cry.
