Since this started everyone has been trying to read Putin's mind.

Biden stood up there and said what he said because he wants Putin to wonder what's on his mind.

That's the way this was played during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and it's exactly what's needed now.

Biden shouldn't recant a word of it. White House aides can twitter all they like, and the GQP and the media can clutch their pearls, but Biden should remain silent. If asked by reporters he should say, "I stand by my statement. Putin should not remain in power. Next question"?
