(21,329 posts)Whitehouse was only talking about what the Federalist Society does in relation to the Supreme Court. The Federalist Society is involved in much more. According to Whitehouse, the Federalist Society was behind writing the anti-voter/election laws that have been passed throughout the states, and much more.
Is it just coincidence that Trump chose Christopher Wray to be FBI Director who is also a member of the Federalist Society?
No proof that Merrick Garland is a member but he participated in at least 10 Federalist Society events.

and because rw radio is completely off the political table media treats those disinformed constituencies as legitimate, as opposed to flying out of the assholes of a few hundred limbaugh-trained racist lying assholes

Whenever I post anything about it I get all these outraged responses about free speech, etc. utterly missing the point, utterly lacking in imagination or purpose.
It would have been so easy for us to have stood up to the college campuses blasting this hate out. And the military bases as well. What the hell? Why is it not only protected but amplified?
And anything these creeps put out, instead of knocking them off their fake high moral grounds, the Dems keep trying to prove how we are better than they are. By ignoring the hate and doing things like getting Al Franken to resign. Instead of fighting back. And getting them off of public airwaves. It is not a free speech issue, it is an amplification by the taxpayers of hate speech. Which may have not gone anywhere had it not been amplified for 35 years. And two generations.

(9,090 posts)really easy to do large scale recording, transcription, and analysis of hundreds of major stations - and totally expose and destroy it.
MIT researchers prototyped that a couple of years ago and the dem party is stupid not to do it too, especially this year. it would destroy the GOP.
but i don't know any big league....

(5,770 posts)... it is protected....
Tumbulu
(6,278 posts)speech on public airwaves is protected somehow?
Attitudes such as yours is why we are in this place where we may just lose our Democracy. Freedom of speech does not mean taxpayer funded amplification of violent and hateful rhetoric.
reACTIONary
(5,770 posts).... the First Amendment. By the way, freedom of speech is absolutely fundamental to democracy. Democracy doesn't exist without it. Just ask Putin.
Tumbulu
(6,278 posts)But the amplification of hate speech is not a first amendment right. Only the freedoms to express.
The issue is amplification and why you wish to argue this with me, is mystifying. I dont matter, I am not in charge.
I just resent absolutely that so called liberals and progressives have not put one brain cell on the task of protecting those of us who have been the victims of these hateful sentiments.
The country as a whole is only now experiencing what those of us in rural areas have lived through for nearly 4 decades now.
Personally, I dont see how the nation recovers from it.

(21,847 posts)He must have the goods if he went public on it. I hope that other news outlets pick this up and maybe add their own investigation to add more to the story.

(21,329 posts)Citizens United allows for dark money to flow into groups like this by anonymous donors. Whitehouse has been trying to pass the Disclose Act which would shine a light on these secret donors. He has a long row to hoe getting that passed when the GQP and SC is on the take.
Sanity Claws
(21,847 posts)So sorry to hear that he doesn't have the goods. I still remain hopeful that others can continue the investigation and get more of the goods, even without the Disclose Act. Passage of that bill is unlikely with this current Senate.

LaMouffette
(2,030 posts)Wouldn't that be nice! With the present makeup of the Senate, it would likely not result in their removal, but as a guest on MSNBC said yesterday, it would still be worthwhile to impeach them just to make their corruption public.

(21,329 posts)Why did you omit Alito and Roberts?
LaMouffette
(2,030 posts)Thomas is all over the news these days. But you're right: add Alito and Roberts to the list.

(6,591 posts)If Merrick Garland has Federalist sympathies and ~10 senators, 3 SCOTUS, 1 former President and who knows how many in the House
Isnt it possible that we (Dem party) are fighting an uphill battle to keep our country without
Passing a Voting Rights Act and prosecuting these elected mobsters?
Why arent the moderate Republicans fighting with us? Is it really all about the money and personal power? Really?
I am gobsmacked that the Moderate Repugs arent standing with us. Truly sickened by it all.

(10,167 posts)The day both sides of the political spectrum realize the constant left-vs-right political divisions have largely been contrived, a false dichotomy created and perpetuated by the 1% to divert, divide and conquer the 99%, things will quickly change.
