and not first stated that he intended to nominate a black woman?

Jackson's background as a defense attorney is an excellent addition to the Court. I think the nomination process didn't emphasize enough how many innocent and those who had their rights trampled upon have been cleared or given a fair chance recently through DNA and the work of organizations like The Innocence Project.

One thing for certain I want to see the next nominee come from a state law school and not an Ivy League school. Also I would like to see a science, math, computer science, or engineering undergraduate background (this applies to our elected representatives as well).

And even more so that her nomination wasn't just opposed by almost the entire Republican party - but that they expressed that opposition by those embarrassing, cringeworthy and ridiculous questions during her confirmation hearings. But I do hope that she's only the first. I didn't follow the backgrounds of the previous nominees (except the sideshow that was Brett Kavanaugh), but diversity - and varying backgrounds - are obviously important for those who serve on SCOTUS. Just not the questionable qualifications/backgrounds of the three that preceded Justice Jackson.
