Listen: Audio Contradicts McCarthy's Denial In Recommending Trump's Resignation - Rachel Maddow MSNBC

Last edited Fri Apr 22, 2022, 12:21 AM - Edit history (1)

Rachel Maddow shares exclusive audio of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy saying that he would call Donald Trump and recommend that he resign in the wake of the January 6th attacks and with a second impeachment looming, as reported by Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns of the New York Times in their new book "This Will Not Pass," and contradicting McCarthy's multiple denials. Aired on 04/21/2022.

Before her "hiatus" she broke the story of the "alternate electors." She pretty much devoted her entire show to this breaking news story, I'm just glad she back for however long it turns out to be...

and I'm beginning to think he was somewhat less than sober at the time. I've heard him speak enough times to think he was not acting normally. Either that or I'm mistaking being scared shitless for being drunk.

But those he spoke with have to remember - we need to hear from them "on the record," especially Liz Cheney, who is vice chair of the 1/6 Committee!

If he actually thought the Senate would have voted to remove Trump from office, he's way dumber than I thought. They wouldn't have done that if the Capitol was burned to the ground on that day.

I also bet the "leak" of these tapes came from the Liz Cheney camp. I hope they have more and I hope McCarthy knows it.

I remember lots of us saying back then "don't fuck with the Cheney family" And that's looking very true.

And that the leak came from the Liz Cheney camp was also the opinion on Stephanie Miller's show today - what you say about the Cheney family makes perfect sense. Wo would have imagined that we'd now be rooting for the Cheneys??

But I've been here on DU since Dick Cheney was calling the shots and I can't think of anyone who was more loathed and feared here - so it shows how much the political landscape has turned upside down since TFG that we'd be rooting for his daughter...
