Russian Belligerence, Atrocities Cast A Pall Over WWII Holiday Remembrance - Veshi - MSNBC Prime

Ali Velshi looks at how Russia likes to celebrate the Allied victory in Europe in World War II, and how their militaristic parades have taken on a darker meaning as the holiday has fallen at times when Russia has been executing a brutal war. Chechnya in 1995, and Ukraine now. Aired on 05/06/2022.

Set Your DVR For MSNBC Prime

Ali Velshi alerts viewers that the 9pm ET hour on MSNBC from Tuesday through Friday is now called MSNBC Prime, and while DVRs set to record the Rachel Maddow Show will still get Rachel on Mondays, recording the 9pm hour the rest of the week will require scheduling a new recording for MSNBC Prime.

There are statues and plaques everywhere, commemorating those they lost - and there are museums everywhere, especially in schools, to teach the next generations about what they experienced. I visited the USSR in the late '80s with my grandmother and the peace group she joined, so I've seen this in person. They were saying "Never Again." I really don't get it...

so one would expect their conduct in war to be more merciful, especially to civilians.

But the fact that they the aggressors in yet another conflict on ex-Soviet states is telling. I don't get it at all because the whole concept of war, what with the technological developments and humankind's ability to decimate humankind and the planet itself...

When it comes down to it it's all about aggressive men and their egos, memories of the past grievances and desires to even scores.
