In Madison, Wisconsin, police say a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the headquarters of an anti-abortion rights group. The building was vandalized with a warning spray-painted on an outside wall, ‘if abortions aren’t safe, you aren’t either.’ In the D.C. area, protestors chanted outside the homes of Chief Justice John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh. A new poll shows nearly 2/3 of Americans want Roe kept in place tensions playing out in protests across the country.

So the pro-birth groups are experiencing the same tactics that they have used for decades against pro-choice groups?

1. Violence Is Not The Answer

It has ZERO chance of changing anything in this circumstance.

I'm quite pessimistic about the future where it comes to the Pro-Choice movement, but I'm smart enough to know that something like this has as much chance of succeeding as the idea of impeaching justices, expanding the court, or passing a National Abortion Rights Bill.

On the other hand, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

2. Violence will only hurt our chances

of getting enough votes to fight the anti choice people. It has to stop NOW.

Also, be aware of the possibility that anti choice people might do "false flag" attacks on their own centers to try to discredit pro choices and cost us support and votes.

been easy to have found someone on their side that could spell and write in legible cursive to pull it off. That make me think it may have been an asshole we don't really need on our side.

The question is, how much are you prepared to suffer for your "pro-life" stand?
your anti-LGBTQ stand?
your anti-immigrant stand?
your anti-democracy stand?

These people have never seen ANY downside to their invasion of their fellow citizens' privacy. Until they are forced to face an internal dialogue, to answer that question, they'll never stop their mind-blowingly pathetic and sanctimonious wars on liberty.

These SOB's are hand-in-hand with the same folks who brought you Donald Trump's horrifying makeover of American style neo-fascism and they've not yet tried to find a middle ground for civilized negotiation. They do not have any plan or intention to reconcile the country. To them it's only shut their eyes, plug their ears and yell like hell. With the law on their side it will be violence on a surprisingly large scale.

They are not rational or open to any honest discussion from people with whom they disagree. Communication of opposing ideologies is always some stage or form of war.

6. Unfortunately, violence sometimes is the only answer

Yeah, throwing molotovs at a storefront may not accomplish much. But is the problem violence, or misdirected violence?

It took violence to secure the colonies' freedom from the abuses of Britain.
It took violence to prevent the secession of the Confederacy and end slavery.
It took violence to foil the axis powers' plans to take over the whole world.
It took violence for local resistance movements in WWII to have any effectiveness.
It is taking violence at this moment for the heroes of Ukraine to defend their country.

Our enemies have been more than happy to use violence against us. They assassinated JFK and RFK, Martin Luther King, Dr.s. David Gunn, John Britton, George Tiller, and they tried to kill house representative Gabby Giffords. The threat of violence had a very definite effect on others who might have been willing to provide abortion services.

You cannot win the fight if you are playing by the Marcus of Queensbury rules but your opponent is willing to kick you in the nuts. And sometimes, as with Ukraine, you don't get a choice about whether to fight because someone else insists on bringing it to you. These assholes have been bringing it to us since 1974 with lies, cheating, deceptive propaganda, clinic bombings, and assassination, and there is a very real danger that they are about to roll right over us. So if violence isn't the answer, we have a damn short time to figure out what is.

Meanwhile I suspect more than a few people are re-reading the Pelican Brief as I type this.
