3. My parents didn't observe mother's and father's days

My mother called them a scheme by the greeting card companies to sell cards. As a result, I never know when they are until someone reminds me. Given that I never had kids and my parents are dead, I can ignore them completely.

Now, if only I could figure out how to ignore Christmas as completely.

I happen to like Mother's Day, both when I was young and had a mother, and later when I had kids and they could be coerced into giving me something.

In more recent years my son knows that the four days of the year he is absolutely obligated to call me are Mother's Day, my birthday (in August), Thanksgiving, and Christmas. He's also obligated to send me presents on Mother's Day and Christmas, and recently I've decided to settle on him purchasing champagne for me which I pick up at a local wine store.
