Finland and every other country have a right to their own decisions. I don’t think he’ll scare them.

And if they join NATO, Russia can’t attack them. Also, the UK has already promised they will defend both Finland and Sweden if they’re attacked before joining, and I’m sure other countries would join in. This is a just soundbite posturing for the home team by ol’ Vlad.

And I've been to Finland, the people are very friendly and welcoming to Americans. They definitely should be in NATO.

Helsinki is stunning, if you don’t mind a lot of snow. Ditto for Stockholm. People in the Scandinavian countries as a whole seem a lot happier and friendlier than most Americans.

Not to mention that I live in Northeastern New York which is serious snow country. And I agree about the people, they couldn't have been friendlier, took us on a tour of the city - and, of course, most spoke English. The only issue I had was that I hadn't the slightest idea what I was eating!

and suddenly announce their membership along with 100 NATO soldiers being placed in each country.
That or sign a mutual defense pact in secret with NATO member countries and suddenly announce it as those two things are the only thing that would probably give Russia pause in trying to pull a Ukraine on them.

NATO should have fast-tracked admission for Ukraine. The decision to pursue NATO membership was already ratified in Ukraine's constitution. Putin could have just claimed that it was "military exercises" etc. and turned around and went home. That is what the troops were told, anyway. They had no idea that they would be deployed into a war against their neighbor, so many of them said.
