He urges all Tesla owners to figure out where their emergency unlock mechanism is, in case they lose all their power, as he did. In the emergency, he couldn't figure it out so he kicked out his window and escaped through that.

(26,319 posts)a tad ridiculous since all automakers have issues such as that.
And no, I do not own a Tesla as I doubt I could ever afford one and I sure as hell would not risk buying a used one as the cost to replace the battery I have heard is absurdly expensive.

(1,926 posts)So instead of a handle, there is a button that opens the door. Tesla's, some BMW's, Cadillac's, Lincoln's, and Corvette's have it. I think some exotics have it as well. They all have backup mechanical releases in case the power is out. My last Corvette had a little latch on the floor near the door sill.

(7,021 posts)the door handle from the inside and the door opens. No door in a car, house anywhere should have a button to to open. Electricity is not always the best option.

(488 posts)The handle to open the door from the inside is invisible and is part of the armrest. I sat for a minute trying to figure out how to get out. Kind of unnerving.
