And, as we all know, air conditioning gives temporary relief, but ends up adding to the problem.

(2,496 posts)2. Air conditioning definitely helps. That's why municipalities open
cooling centers during a heat wave.
From the CDC website:
Air conditioning is the strongest protective factor against heat-related illness. Exposure to air conditioning for even a few hours a day will reduce the risk for heat-related illness. Consider visiting a shopping mall or public library for a few hours.

(4,140 posts)3. Not sure why you think air conditioning adds to the problem
Going from the hot outdoors to an air conditioned space does bring actual relief from heat stress. Yes, air conditioning consumes energy that *can* add to greenhouse gas emissions if it does not come from a renewable source. If everyone would put solar panels on their roofs we could cut out a lot of excess CO2 emissions from electricity production.

(228 posts)5. Well, the energy needed to power it usually comes from fossil fuels
Not true in every case, but certainly in most.

that the high humidity cuts down severely on your ability to perspire or get any cooling from evaporation when you perspire.
