The Russians are doing a lot better. The flip side is that they're doing a lot better within the context of scaled down military objectives necessitated by the ass-kicking they took. in the first part of the war.

Took them weeks. Ukraine’s planned response as it is called in war is trading space for time. They held them off, tied them up while waiting on the rest of their heavy armaments to arrive, troops to finish training and inflict heavy losses on the orcs. All three were accomplished. And…in the meantime while the orcs were focused on these 2 minor cities, Ukrainian forces drove the orcs completely off of snake island and make advances towards Kherson in the south. Kherson is strategic for the orcs as a resupply route directly out of Crimea.
