" Shooter" is a good film about oiligarch theater.

Last edited Mon Jul 4, 2022, 08:44 PM - Edit history (2)

It's gotten a lot of airtime on Showtime, also available on its On Demand "Search".
It is about the coverup of an oil pipeline in Ethiopia, with oiligarch violence there, and the movie mostly about the violent coverup theater of it here.
It was on again last night.

I believe they made a 31 episode TV series from it. Check it out. Same Bobby Lee Swagger, ancianita Jul 2022 #4

1. A quote from that movie:

"Nothing, no matter how horrible, ever really happens without the approval of the government. Over there and here. The problem isn't the doing. It's the people in power having to admit that they knew. The prisoners are tortured at Abu Ghriab and only the underlings go to jail. Their bosses knew. We know their bosses knew. But you don't say it. . . .There is no head to cut off. It's a conglomerate. If one of them betrays the principles of the accrual of money and power the others betray him. What it is, is human weakness. You can't kill that with a gun."

Another is by the Senator Meachum from Montana (Ned Beatty) and the "Colonel" Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover)
-- in the hostage exchange scene where they've arranged to get an incriminating recording about the Ethiopia village mass murder to lay down their owners' pipeline -- about how there are "no sides," just power.

The Senator says:
"This is a country where the Secretary of Defense can go on TV and tell the American public, oh, that "This is about freedom! It's not about oil!" And nobody questions him, cuz they don't wanna hear the answer, because it's a lie! There's only so many places at the table, Gunny. Now, are you on the inside or are you on the out?"

Another is by the Attorney General who says :
"For the record, I don't like the way this turned out any more than you do, but this is the world we live in and justice does not always prevail. It's not the Wild West where you can clean up the streets with a gun... even though sometimes that's exactly what's needed..."

It blows that it didn't perform great at the box office. We loved it, and it sooo could've been a series of movies. That are a lot of Bob Lee Swagger books.
