US VP to speak at Pacific Islands Forum to unveil major plans for the region - ABC News (Australia)
As the Pacific Islands Forum gets underway, issues around climate change and regional security continue to dominate. Despite the US and China not being invited, vice president Kamala Harris is due to make a virtual appearance, where she'll announce new measures to enhance ties with the Pacific. These include opening new embassies in Kiribati and Tonga, more funding for numerous initiatives, and the appointment of the first-ever US envoy to the forum. Tahlea Aualiitia explains.
