Steve Bannon - Guilty; J6 hearing reveals Trump was the leader of the coup on January 6 - Kirschner

A jury just found Steve Bannon guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress. What are the main takeaways form his conviction and what can we expect when he's sentenced in October?

The House select committee holds another public hearing and reveals disturbing evidence of what Donald Trump was doing during the 187 minutes the Capitol was under attack on January 6. Once thing has become crystal clear: on January 6, 2021, Donald Trump was not the leader of the country, he was the leader of the coup. - Glenn Kirschner - 07/22/2022.

And it certainly looks like he'll be "locked up," long past time - if only he could be "shut up" too...

Like one of the experts say, Bannon may just be mouthing off to promote the book he is going to write in prison.

Or jail, apparently he could do his time in the DC city jail, not federal prison. That would be much rougher for him I would think.

City lock ups are not fun places I hear.

Poor little Steve, no POTUS pardon this time buddy.

Yes there are mandatory hygiene rules in jail or prison.
And showering on schedule is on the list.

Can you imagine if everyone in prison had the hygiene of Bannon?

I don't know what the DC jail is like. Usually city lock ups are not really equipped like a federal prison and certainly don't have the amenities or organization of a federal setting.

Maybe Bannon will angle for federal prison to get out of the city lock up. City jails can be pretty scary on weekends as LE brings in all kinds of substance abusers and unruly folks. You don't get much sleep I hear.

City jails are usually the holding tanks for folks until they get sent to state or federal prisons. Apparently there is an odd detail in the law that congressional subpoena violations stay in city jail. Which is odd.

Poor Stevie, he cannot catch a break.

Definitely not his usual layers - and his time will not be his own.

And given his uncooperative behavior, I can't imagine anyone will be inclined to do him any favors. His behavior all along has appeared to be that he thinks he's "untouchable," so he's in for one rude awakening...

And he is going to have to wear clean clothes.

Yes there are schedules. You do things on schedule, and the guards make sure you follow the schedule or there will be disciplinary action of some sort. The inmates may have duties as well and also some free time.

I don't know how he will be received. He is a celebrity of sorts, but he is a real a-hole.
If Bannon continues to act out, stir up trouble and give everyone a bad attitude, I don't think he will do well. Guards only put up with so much crap.

In a city lock up there can be a lot of new inmates, there is more disarray and disruption, drama. Inmates coming and going. Guards are city employees, not federal.

It doesn't operate in the same smooth, organized way as a federal prison.

I guess it depends upon how bad the DC lock up is in terms of Bannon asking for federal prison. Or maybe he doesn't want that stigma. Of course if he is going to write a book about being a victim federal prison sounds worse than city jail.

And where he's placed will probably depend on the length of his sentence. Another thing that I don't understand, why is this postponed till October? Do they have to impanel yet another jury? I was once called for a jury like that, I didn't get picked, but it was to decide the particulars after a previous jury had already decided the outcome.

Yes that makes sense, length of sentence will play a part in the decision.

In many cases sentencing is delayed so the judge can get more information to give out the most appropriate sentence. To see if there are any factors which might impact sentencing locations, length or other interventions.

There is something called pre-sentence evaluations, or PSIs. The judge orders staff from the court to conduct a thorough evaluation prior to sentencing. The report would cover medical, social, employment, etc., issues.

Ordinarily with someone like Bannon who appears in poor physical and mental health, there would be some investigation into health needs which could impact length and location in terms of sentencing. For example if Bannon has multiple serious health problems he might get a lighter sentence and sent to a location with health care resources.

Or in light of severe medical illnesses, the judge might have grounds to waive incarceration altogether. Or if a psychologist evaluates Bannon as part of the PSI, and Bannon is acutely psychotic, he is going to have a special placement perhaps. If he is just a sociopath with a good imagination, then that would not factor in. Jails are full of these kind of folks.

Normally folks who mouth off to court staff doing their jobs, who are angry and defiant, professing innocence and taking no responsibility, no remorse, blaming others don't come off very well in the PSI report.

I don't know about celebrity clients and special treatment. Also the judge knows Bannon will appeal to the SC and I suppose judges are now going to take into account that the SC is now a GOP junta. So judges may go the extra mile to appear as impartial as possible and give lighter sentences, etc.

Bannon's attorneys will have access to the reports and may be able to negotiate some sort of deal about placement and length of treatment.
