Experts call for more public urgency on climate change - CBS Sunday Morning

In a state where every drop of water counts, ornamental grass – which accounts for a large percentage of outdoor water use – has been banned in Southern Nevada. Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with climate and water experts about the steps being taken (or not) to address rising temperatures; and with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson about the lack of urgency he says is hampering humanity's ability to counter this existential threat to our planet. - Aired on 08/07/2022.

If we just did not air condition our houses and interiors so dang f-ing COLD in the summer. I think that no house or building interior should be air conditioned any cooler than 75 degrees F, which is enough to take the edge off the heat, but no more. Heck - the air conditioning is so cold in many places that I have to put on a jacket or warm clothing, otherwise I will get stiff muscles and joints, as well as coughs and cold symptoms.

But when I make my weekly supermarket run, it's usually so chilly in there that I have to remember to wear a jacket - and it's a very large store! At the beginning of the pandemic, I chose only one store to go to, the one where I regularly get the most things. And if I need to stop anywhere else, it's usually the same. I'm currently experiencing cold symptoms even in this heat, got a prescription from the doctor last week - since it's clearly more than seasonal allergies.

Ever since I didn't get vaccinated for COVID out of a fear that it might make my mysterious and escalating food allergies worse, got COVID and used my knowledge of herbal medicine to treat it promptly and decisively in the initial stages, my lungs and respiratory tract is slightly weaker than it used to be, because the recovery lasted longer than I had anticipated. I have problems with rheumatism, and have long had a tendency towards sciatica, which trauma that I sustained in a car accident that totaled my old car in Rosarito made worse, especially in the lower back and right hip joint. I've been to an allergist, and so far, all the tests for the mysterious food allergies have come back negative - still no explanation for them.

That was it. No effects from the first one or the fourth. And if I'd had the misfortune to get it, I would have taken what was recommended, if it was available then. What I got was the flu, back in April, and I had to spend half a day in the hospital ER since no one else (including my doctor's office!) would see me - because of fear of Covid. Turns out I had the flu, "Type A" specifically - and I did get a flu shot this year. I felt rotten for the better part of a month.

As for sciatica, my mother had that rather badly. She tried chiropractic which didn't help, but at the time I was receiving acupuncture as a last ditch effort to avoid surgery. It didn't cure me, though it helped with the pain I was experiencing, but it definitely cured my mother's sciatica. This was in the 90s, so I can't tell you how many sessions she had, but it's non invasive and helped so much that later on I even brought my 18-year-old dog to a vet who offered it since my pup was having trouble getting around and it helped him tremendously, too. Just a suggestion. My doctor was an M.D. and is now practicing in Massachusetts.
