take time to provide financial help to the average independent voter in this time of globally caused inflation? If none of this legislative success is anything concrete and swift, it might not equal electoral success for the Democratic Party in November - regardless of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
So, this is no time for the Biden Administration and the Democratic Party to start resting on perceived laurels. It's time to do more. (Hint: legalize marijuana...end student debt...end medical debt...ditch DeJoy...etc...even if by Presidential order & make them fight against things which are already done for a change, and, by doing so, show the citizenry that the GOP is acting to oppose things that directly would help them! Also, indict and arrest Trump for his 1/6 Insurrection. How can AG Garland not have a case by now?)
In a way, this is a lot like watching Iowa play football. The offense mostly cannot quite get it together for positive yardage. The constant standard, slowly developing run up the middle pleases no fans. The panicked play at quarterback with errant passes sailing everywhere or grounding themselves short of the receiver leads to nothing good. Sure, everyone can celebrate the occasional succession of achieved first-downs. But, then with the ball in the red zone, can they score an actual touchdown, or will it be up to the defense (as usual) to win the game?
The true measure of successful legislation is what that legislation does directly for the citizens of the country - just as the measure of coaching success is the number of victories given to the fans in a season. I hope the Democratic Party's legislative success actually translates to election victories in November, for they don't have (what most independent voters would likely see as) a prohibitive buy-out like Ferentz does.
