Related: About this forumTrump files nonsensical brief attacking DOJ/Mar-a-Lago search warrant; Judge tells him to try again
Donald Trump's legal team - acting more like a public relations team - files an embarrassingly incompetent legal brief, captioned "Motion for Judicial Oversight and Additional Relief." Trump's motion reads more like a fundraising email than a legal filing. In it, Trump repeatedly asserts that he is the clear front-runner in the 2024 presidential election, he brags that his "Mar-a-Lago mansion" has 33 bathrooms" and he has an entire section of the brief under the heading, "The Government Has Long Treated Donald J. Trump Unfairly." No, you can't make this up.
The judge who has been assigned this matter - Judge Aileen Cannon - is a Trump appointee who was confirmed by Mitch McConnell's Senate AFTER Trump lost the 2020 election. Still, even Judge Cannon makes clear her view of Trump's motion by demanding he "file a supplement to the Motion further elaborating on" several aspects of the legal filing. In substance, Judge Cannon signals to Trump that his defense team should withdraw the legal trash they filed, and file a competent legal pleading. - Glenn Kirschner - 08/24/2022.

(205,839 posts)But, from what we've seen, TFG's Republican party reacts to anything they object to - including election results and the policies of those holding office - with threats and actual violence.

(21,562 posts)When Trump lost the election, he filed case after case, full of lies and nonsense that no court could take seriously, about fraud, a stolen election, etc. He had no evidence, but didn't need any because the purpose of all those cases was to amplify his false claims in the media and then to claim he was unfairly treated even in the courts.
The whole point was not to win those election cases, but to rile up his followers over a "rigged" election and supposed voter fraud. It was useful to him when he called for action by his followers on J6.
So now, he makes false claims in court filings over the FBI search of his home. And, he has made veiled threats to AG Garland about "a great deal of anger among the people" over the FBI search. He is trying to recreate the same kind of angry atmosphere among his followers that he created after the election loss. He files these ridiculous briefs with a court, just as he did after the election, knowing that the briefs will be publicized.

(205,839 posts)And these are not empty threats, we know he supports and enables extremist groups - as we saw o January 6th! That's what TFG's Republican party does - if they don't like an election or a policy, they threaten - or commit - violent acts!
