I usually respond with - Have you been to the post office recently?

Most of the time it gets a good laugh. Sometimes I have to explain about the FBI's wanted posters.

I had been told about her, but did not think much about it until the day that we met, face to face.

I had been hired for a training position to become an assistant to the boss. Several people told me that I resembled a previous assistant of the boss's. These other employees told me the backstory.

The boss and his assistant had become an item and had discussed marriage plans. Then, one day the assistant did not show up or call in.

A couple days later, she sent him a telegram saying that she had eloped with another guy. Another employee was quickly moved up to take over her work. But, that employee was leaving in a few months so I was hired to train for the job. Everyone assumed, when they saw me, that I was hired because of the resemblance to his former fiance/assistant.

One day, a husband and wife came into the business and asked to speak to my boss. I knew immediately who they were. The woman could have been my identical twin. It was unnerving to face a total stranger and see myself, as if looking in a mirror. Same height, body frame, weight, hair color, face shape. Similar hair style, too, because we both wore it to fit a similarly shaped face. The only difference was eye color. Hers were blue and mine are hazel, green and brown.

He could not look at me without seeing her. It created so many problems for me that I left for another job.
