(4,552 posts)I own a nice patch of woods. The zoning only allows me to cut a specific number of trees a year. The community controls my woods! Thing is the woods was topped out and nothing grew on the forest floor. That resulted in erosion of the top soil. The fascist leaders do not care. The emerald ash borer actually helped me. The fascist allow me to cut all the dead trees I want. There are now whole sections of my woods covered in grass. Grass I do not cut. In the winter I go out with a battery operated hedge trimmer on a pole and cut the woody plants so the grass will flourish. I collect grass seed and spread it. If I dig a hole on my property and it fills with water. There will be a frog in it the next morning. That folks is a healthy ecosystem. I share my patch with deer, fox, owls, coyotes, hawks, frogs, toads, snakes, turtles and tree rats.
The zoning in southeastern Pa is out of control. They are even dictating architecture in some cases. In my community they are dictating architecture of single family homes!!!!

(70,234 posts)in 2020 i got into some serious beefs w folks that had always been my friends. it got ugly.
the focus of this broader war has been making 311 complaints about anything and everything ever since.
i had so many calls about my roosters in the 1st few years. some neighbors went to great, great lengths to get rid of them, but they are perfectly legal. the last time i talked to an officer, he was fuming he'd been sent on this complaint. he said they rarely go out on those calls, and that i must have pissed up someone high up. me- yes, the alderman.
i was close w him and w the ward party when this all started. we talked over my plans. he was gung ho. til the crazies started calling. including 1 that was truly disturbed, who was calling daily to blame me for the havoc that was centered in his hoarder house.
the worst part is that complaints are anonymous here. if the inspector doesnt want to write a ticket, it takes 3 unrelated citizens to issue a ticket. i dont mind an inspection based on anonymous reports, but it should take a signature from the complainer to write a ticket.
the alderman, of course, know the phone number at least. but this person has followed up w the alderman's office. they know. they're hassling me anyway.
i just found out that it's not that way everywhere.
