Trump-appointed-judge Aileen Cannon grants Trump's demand for special master BEFORE DOJ weighs in-GK

There are some fundamental principles and universal rules by which America courts operate. One of those fundamental principles is that a judge does not rule on an issue until hearing from both parties involved in the litigation.

Apparently Trump appointed judge Aileen Cannon does things a little differently. Donald Trump's legal defense team filed a largely incompetent motion demanding that Judge Cannon appoint a special master to review the documents the were seized by the FBI from Mar-a-Lago pursuant to a judicially authorized search warrant - documents that Trump and company stole from the federal government and unlawfully concealed at Trump's home in Florida.

Without even waiting for the reply from the federal prosecutors at the Department of Justice, Judge Cannon issued an order on Saturday stating " . . . the court hereby provides notice of its preliminary intent to appoint a special master in this case."

This order - entered after hearing form ONLY ONE PARTY TO THE LITIGATION - exposes Judge Cannon to be, at best, a judge with extraordinarily poor judgment and, at worst, irredeemably biased in favor of Donald Trump. It's also worth noting that Judge Cannon was appointed by Trump, and was confirmed by Mitch McConnell's Senate AFTER Trump lost the 2020 presidential election.

She has not granted a Special Master

She's going to hear from the DoJ & then Trump's lawyers first before finalizing her decision.

What does…notice of preliminary intent…followed by…no conclusions should be drawn…mean? It’s clear!

Law is hard!

Will still be dismissed.

No attorney-client privilege, no executive privilege, no huge volume of documents.

No one has answered my other question, why was judge Reinhart bypassed? If there was a reason to bypass him how was judge Cannon given the case?

I can't find those answers on the Google machine.

Oh yeah, plus the FBI has had the documents for almost 3 weeks now, isn't it a bit late for Trump to be asking for a special master?

I know this, when Democrats keep Congress by winning the election the first item of business had better be adding 4 SC justices. They should have been doing it already.

with!

As to why this Judge is playing out the game…wouldn’t you if the alternative is you and your family being terrorized online and in person perhaps, by vicious fascist minions?

Terrorism works, Republican party has fallen in love with it!

He wanted the affidavit released, and look what happened.

The special master is not going to exclude top-secret material and say it's Trump's property.

(The FBI has had it all for two weeks anyway-- they'll have a list.)

The judge is, of course, letting Trump postpone and postpone. But the DOJ can continue building the case no matter what.

I guess that this is the lull before the storm. The late night comics will be soon and Congress will be back for a little while so this forum will become very busy soon. Like everyone else, I can't wait for the news of an indictment.

Breaking news. They're going to have a whole lot to catch up on! And I'm sure they're thinking of the jokes they missed.

I normally check for GK first thing, but I got home late tonight. And it was dark! Last week it didn't get dark till I was almost home. I do not want to see the end of summer - though I will not miss the streets packed with tourists.
