but the 100 million dollar settlement is not being paid by the police. Rather it's
being paid by the city (the taxpayers). These kinds of awards don't do anything
to dissuade the police departments from future violence because it doesn't affect the
officers personally. Police officers need to self insure. I know that's not going to happen
because there isn't federal control over state/local police. Just another reason this
country is dumb. In fact, I would have a problem having my tax dollars go to ANY police
malfeasance because it's like a blank check for them. They're not going to change
their culture one bit due to judgements like this. They don't give a shit and this
is going to happen again and we can throw another 100 million at the problem -
can anyone say a bajillion dollars??
