Dr. Anthony Fauci discusses approval of updated COVID booster shots that target omicron - PBS NewsHour

Americans twelve and older should be able to start getting updated boosters for COVID within days. The CDC and FDA approved new Pfizer and Moderna shots that will hopefully provide more protection against the latest variants this coming winter. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, joined Judy Woodruff to discuss the developments. - Aired on 09/02/2022.

And I was ticked to learn that he also got the Moderna - same as me!

I'm not due for mine for a couple of weeks, kept putting off the last one since I was already under te weather. In the meantime, I need to start talking my brother into getting his - again. He kept asking "How many more?" And I only talked him into three. *sigh*

I was actually eligible for booster #2 in April, but on that very day I was diagnosed with the flu - which took forever to go away. So I kept putting it off.

There were 2400 slots offered by the Houston health department that were filled in 16 minutes. My son got me a slot and I had the fun time of waiting with 6000 people at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The second shot was more organized. Later in September, I had an antibody test as part of the UT CARES study and found that I had a low antibody count. My doctors had me get my first booster earlier than normal and I have had antibody levels in excess of the maximum measured by this test.

My various doctors are all amazed that I have not caught COVID. The last antibody test showed I have not had COVID but still had a high vaccine antibody level. No one is sure if this antibody level is determinative in that T-cells appear to play a major role in resistence to COVID.

My son was in the Pfzier antibody trial and got his first shots back in August of 2020 and was in the Pfzier booster trial.

Living in a metropolitan area, the vaccine was available for you sooner than it was for those of us in the New York North Country. People kept checking, as everyone did in those days, but the only places in New York State where it was available was New York City (6 hours away) or on the completely other side of the state. My friend who teaches made the latter trip,

I have two friends who work in the local hospital and they were the first I knew who got it in January of 2021. They had to drive an hour downstate to a major hospital (Capital area) to get the Pfizer and got a $100 bonus for their effort. When it was finally available locally - Moderna at CVS - my friend tried to contact me, but I was unbelievably in the dentist's chair at the time, so I missed out, appointments filled up so fast. But I finally got it on the last day of February at a CVS a half hour downstate - and made my appointment there for the second shot.

Of course, after that, it was available at every pharmacy, pharmacies in supermarkets and Walmart - and a large clinic was set up in the old Sears store at the local mall. I convinced my brother to go there - drove him for the first two and he surprised me by going himself to get his first booster. But that's closed down now.

It sounds like this next round is going to be more easily available, they've had practice by now. So I'm hoping to get the next one locally this time. I just hope that you stay well and that the indoor weather and school openings don't result in anymore "surges." But thanks to TFG, we still have the anti-vaxxers. We have them here in New York, too. *sigh*
