Russian tanks rolling into a democracy was always going to trigger NATO counties , which had been war-gaming a Soviet invasion of Western Europe from the get go.

Even Russia's best case scenario, taking Kyiv in week, would have been a disaster. There is no way an army of 150K could have held onto a country the size of Ukraine with as many as 10 million people staying on to fight. Maybe Putin really believed his mystical shit about Russians and Ukrainians being one people. But what he should have known from WWII is how slavs react when the homeland is invaded.

And - what Putin should have known, even in his best case scenario, is how NATO would react, with Biden in the White House.

Madness. Utter madness.

I visited what was then Soviet Georgia and the hate towards Russia was obvious. There were numerous statues of Stalin, which confused me since I thought he was "out of favor," so I asked - and I was told that Stalin was Georgian, not Russian - and "he killed so many Russians."

And they would take a page from Ukraine's book and fight in exactly the same way rather than go back to being forced to submit to Russian domination.

is to keep the orcs on the run. Maintain the pressure on as many fronts as possible as they retreat. Let them run, run, run all the way home. I hope Ukraine has this ability.
