“People” need to come to their senses? Which people would that be?

Reminds me of the terrible habit Obama fell into and never quite got out of; “Congress” needed to come to its senses when one party was insane.

The question framed the issue of whether a cornered Putin would resort to nuclear weapons. His answer was very somber and he doesn't rule it out. In that context, the rest of his answer is essentially that they need diplomacy and Blinken and Jake Sullivan are on it. Remember as someone on Biden's national security team, an answer like this which should not make news is what is needed. Even the SoS will not step beyond the official position. I have no idea what things you would want him to say.

without either qualifying that Putin is to blame for his own misery or adding a statement of support for Ukraine’s right to its own territory—which Blinken always does—was, frankly, fuzzy and inept.

In fairness, he wasn’t there to talk about Ukraine but as a former SecState it shouldn’t have been that hard.
