(33,643 posts)I'm not entirely sure this is a flip, nor that it undermines their 'case', such as it is (which is bullshit of course).
This could actually give them an air of officiality.
May look bad for Trump and the Secret Service, but not necessarily for themselves.
Just thinking out loud, not entirely sure what to make of it

(33,643 posts)Their defense, essentially, is that they were there to respond to (imaginary) Antifa agitators that may show up and attack people.
They're up against the wall, clutching at straws. Claiming they were in touch with SS could be intended to lend their (bullshit) story ... credibility. Like hey, we were invited and we were in touch with SS, trying to help in case Antifa shows up!
I don't truss 'em, nor the shady-ass lawyers I imagine they have.
Plus it could be intended to cause delay.

(33,643 posts)I doubt they get out of the crimes involving attacking cops, and I think they also doubt they will.
However I think it's quite possible they're working an angle where it was not pre-meditated, hoping to avoid seditious conspiracy being added on.
Something along the lines of 'okay, you got us, we showed up and got in some fights with cops, but that wasn't our intent, it was not pre-planned sedition'.
Honestly I think that's all they got to avoid very serious trouble, so they're giving it a shot.

(1,766 posts)Why would the feds need the help of a bunch of self-appointed militia wannabes when they have tens of thousands of law enforcement officers and the National Guard in the DC area?
It's just STUPID to think their help was even wanted for a legitimate purpose, never mind necessary.
They weren't wanted there for a legitimate reason, but for a seditious overthrow of the government.
