Chris Hayes: Why The Price Of Gas Could Decide The Fate Of American Democracy - All In - MSNBC

Chris Hayes: “The fate of American democracy hangs largely on these little digits you see at gas stations across the country. As wild as it is to say that, it’s basically true.” - Aired on 10/19/2022.

I will go with the reports of thousands and thousands of women newly registered. Ask Kansas about bodily autonomy. The polls said the anti abortion would win by 30 points.

One more time. POTUS does not set the price for crude oil, gasoline, diesel, natural gas (to generate electricity) or heating oil. He can release all the oil he wants from the reserves, but at the end of the day POTUS DOESN'T SET CONSUMER PRICES.

Even though publicly traded companies are making record profits, when it comes to energy of any kind, we have to use it. We have no choice. It's not really as simple as "whatever the market will bear" because we are forced to bear it. You can only fiddle with the thermostat so much.

All he knows about my politics is that I got vaccinated as soon as it was available here in my area, but that didn't stop him. So I have an answer ready just in case if he ever brings up gas prices - Joe Biden does not run OPEC!

You can see how volatile the price of crude oil has been over the last 25 years. While I do think the energy companies are price gouging on the price of gasoline and diesel (it always goes up a lot quicker than it comes down), the volatility of the commodity prices makes it difficult to.guage when to step up production. What if we have another COVID crisis this winter and go into lock down mode again. Demand would plummet.

I only went out unless I really had to and it was much easier to get anywhere. Prices recently have been up and down, diesel especially has been way up around here, gas is up again, but not as much.

Don't realize that if the cost per barrel isn't high enough, it's just not profitable for oil companies to gear up again. I've lived in Houston my entire 65 years, I honestly wish that someone would come up with a system that could stabilize the price of crude oil and its products, like gasoline and diesel. But oil companies have been allowed to sell crude on the global market since around 2015. While that increased the amount of oil we produce, it also increased competition for their product. It was good for the oil companies, but not so great for citizens of the US.
