Talk radio: The airwaves' great divide is getting wider

As a broadcaster of four decades I can tell you what happened. Limbaugh became popular and every foolish commercial radio Program Director rushed out to clone him. They did and then destroyed the earlier talk radio that had a spectrum of views on the air. They then made the Talk Radio format toxic to everyone who wasn't already a hard right conservative. They used the public airwaves to fill the ears of our rural neighbors with propaganda and hate and it has only spiraled up as the drug of outrage and resentment needs ever more vile content to give the listeners their next fix. Now the AM stations have plummeted in value as there are only so many older, aggrieved men you can sell viagra too. The greed and stupidity of the PD and owners who made the very concious decision to clone only far right hosts has doomed their industry. I watched it all happen and this story is frankly quaint, talk radio long ago made it's bed and is now laying in it, much to the nation's loss.
