that civilians could be brought under control by air strikes destroying infrastructure. It has never worked that way, it has only made civilians more united against the enemy doing the damage to them.

What those air strikes can do is soften up enemy lines on a formal battlefield. That has been proven to work.

However, this war isn't like that, the Ukrainians haven't given the Russians a real target for air strikes or even shelling, so they have targeted people in villages and cities, it's all they can find to bomb and shoot at.

It's true that Putin will be ousted by the top command, everything in Russia has always been top-down, the real tragedy of that country. No leader has ever trusted the people. Once he's out, people will likely be out in the streets celebrating, but they won't be the ones to throw him out. They know how to throw a good revolution in Ukraine. The Russians have forgotten it.
