Allow me to share a story:
Mid 1970's in Colorado I got involved with some local churches for lack of much anything else in the area for teens to do. There was a little old lady in her upper 90's who sat on her porch near the school, loved to regale young folks with stories from her youth. When I told her the apocalyptic Bible stories had me frightened, she said in her youth (digression: the math makes her story set just before the turn of the 20th century, horse and buggy days) there were traveling "revival meetings" set up tents, scared countless people with relating current events to Bible prophecy, convinced them their money was evil and they should give it all to their ministry since the world would end tomorrow. Bankrupted those uneducated coal mining fools every time. They came back with fake newsprint of riots in the streets in far away places and-- get this one-- cities burnt to the ground. 😨 (probably with old 1871 Chicago pics) So, with their updated end of the world prophecy, bamboozle the illiterate crowd all over again.
I regret I didn't think of filming her story before she passed on to this day.
Reality is on our side.
Jeebus Crackers, these days of science proving out and mass media these republican confabulations have them scrambling to keep up so many houses of cards.
The difference nowadays is short attention span brought about by tele-mesmerisization, how Fox News will sleight of hand-shift these fools attention to another confabulation when caught with their pants down. These Q nuts will never catch on, but public forums can bring about mass-shifts of opinion. The worst of the Republican confabulators are using non factual, flimsy in the light of history, mass hysteria tactics just like the damned Nazis did.
A whole community had to learn hard lessons to finally, decades later, ultimately catch on.
The revival tents are back, using the same flimsy bullshit.
