(129,072 posts)plus they have concerts and other events in there.
Back when COVID-19 was starting to fill up the hospitals here, they actually set it up to be an "overflow" medical facility!
But yeah, they could easily fill that up!

(205,467 posts)I don't think we have anything that enormous in these parts, even in Albany where I went to see Al Franken speak last year. But then no all-stars show up in Northern New York, we're a reliably "blue state" - even though the Zeldin and Stefanik signs I see in these parts make my blood boil, the more populous downstate always carries the day. *sigh*

(129,072 posts)to help get rid of Stefanik. I know I have gotten calls here with her name on the called ID stumping for candidates here (since she is head House Republican Caucus).

(205,467 posts)We inexplicably got a campaign mailer for her recently, listing all she's done for New York veterans - and on that list was the Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act, the one that Jon Stewart worked so hard to get passed. She was typically boasting about it, but I know that she voted against it - along with 194 Republicans...

(129,072 posts)how she went from being a nobody to that "leadership" position at the expense of Liz Cheney, of all people.
It just goes to show how opportunistic they are, with zero concern about how hypocritical, delusional, and strident they sound.

(205,467 posts)There were protests here since the day she first took office, protesters followed her everywhere so she stopped posting her schedule, I showed you that billboard - one of many - and she recently held a rare phone Town Hall - and I found out after-the-fact that any calls/questions that didn't support her were blocked! And yet I keep seeing signs for her wherever I go.
At least I'm keeping my fingers crossed for our chances at a win for State Senate. I've seen signs for our Democratic candidate all over as well - and she happens to be a friend of mine! (Her husband gave me a sign for her and one for the candidate opposing Stefanik...)

(129,072 posts)they become "the incumbent" and it's hard to get rid of them. And in her case, I think there is an assumption by the GOP voters and indie voters there that since she has a leadership slot, that would mean more "bacon" for the district. But you obviously know the reality of her votes against everything that has benefited the district, yet she will campaign on what she will brazenly lie about what she "brought to the district".
I do hope you can prevail with that state Senate seat. I know where I am, both my state Rep. and Senator are (D)s as is my congressman (plus mayor and city Council, etc). Very blue area here but we still get negatively impacted by the ilk that got elected by others around the state, to our state legislature. I did see some recent articles that noted that because of all the retirements and redistricting of the state legislature (not as gerrymandered because unlike 2010, this time we had a (D) governor and (D) majority on the state Supreme Court,) a lot of the shenanigans of drawing districts were quickly shot down. So there is a possibility that Democrats can pick up a bunch of seats and really cut the margins to get close in one or both chambers.

(205,467 posts)And she's putting everything into this, not just the signs, but she's traveled all over the district - often in the company of the guy who's taken on Stefanik this time. She ran for a seat on the Town Supervisor board last time around since there were no Democrats running - and she lost. But al least her name is now more familiar. And of course I've been talking her up - even that guy who once gave me crap about Biden at a local meeting brought her up - said he thinks she's going to win!
Matt Castelli, the guy with the beard, is running against Stefanik - and has been campaigning with my friend Jean:
