Papantonio: Obama – Reward Your Base and Prosper

Over the course of the next few months, GOP leadership will be meeting in secret, in an attempt to make sense of the obvious: The not-so-Grand, very Old Tea Party Republicans will be meeting to try to understand what anyone who believes in equality for classes, gender, and race has already known for decades.

1. Uh, Pap, here is how Obama DID reward the base the FIRST time:

1) A cabinet that DOES look very much like America: Hillary, Shinseki, Salazar, etc.

2) Two WOMEN Supreme Court Justices, one a Latino.

3) Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

4) Got rid of DADT.

5) Supports same sex marriage.

6) Stimulus #1 and a second "education stimulus" saving many thousands of teacher jobs and those firefighters and cops.

7) Saved the auto industry.

8) Tried like hell to get the DREAM Act passed and took executive action to do some of it.

9) Biggest investments in green energy we've ever seen and record deal on increasing gas mileage.

10) ObamaCare does many good things for families, students, those with pre-existing conditions, closing the donut hole, extending Medicare, etc. As part of the deal, college loans are a better deal by eliminating the big bank middlemen.

11) Dodd-Frank and the Consumer Protection Bureau

And MUCH more. And so therefore, the base rewarded him back. No question. Pap, maybe not purity, but a hell of a lot more PROGRESSIVE than we ever would have gotten from McSAME and Failin Palin. Let's give some credit. I agree it wasn't perfect, and there was too much compromise sometimes, but if government is to work there must be some amount of compromise as you know from our history going to our very founding. I think you were a little rough here.

he realized he needed progressives to win again! The first three years were miserable; cutting deals before the discussions began, surrounding himself with Wall Street and DLC corporate Dems, and I'm still waiting for him to put on those comfy shoes and march with ONE union! Wake up or it'll be 2010 all over again!

...to be happy because I got Obama/Biden and not McCain / Palin. Sure, it would have been intolerable if we'd got McCain, but it's not hard to look "better than...." when you're comparing to the lowest of the low, is it?

Shouldn't we be aiming a bit higher than that? I mean, if we have any self-respect, and all....

I'm with Mike. If Obama tanks on this second term like he did at the start of his first, there's gonna be an angry mob of Dems with pitchforks in the streets...

7. You mean like the "real world" that got up and kicked Dems in the ass in the 2010 mid-terms?

Handed the House to the Republicans and almost lost the Senate?

Please, enlighten me with your "real world" explanation for that trouncing, after the landslide of 2008?

3. Example of two young, new GOP thinkers and movers: New Senator Ted Cruz and J. Bush of Texas.

I think we/local Democratic Party members need a newsletter to hand out around my block with the voting record of Republicans, especially Texas Republicans. It should be just the FACTS on how the lawmakers voted. Hopefully, new voter registration laws will be in place so we can talk about voter registration too.

4. During the campaign, Cruz ran an Ad during the last week before the Nov 6 election saying that

his Father fled Castro's Cuba and came to Texas. He lied. Cruz's Father fled to Canada where Curz was born. No Democratic ad rebutted this matter.

Due to GOP voter suppression and gerrymandering, the courts put the March Primaries off until July 31. That was just enough time for Cruz and Big Money to bulldoze over Dewhurst for the GOP Senatorial nomination. That is how Texas ended up with a smooth talking, lying, deceiving Ted Curz, who was born in Canada. Listen to the PBS debate with D-Sandler. One might get an understanding of why Democrats need to watch and report on R-Cruz and his voting record.

Medicare, and other social welfare at the start, or even the end of negotiations, he will lose us. Things like Tort Reform. The Republicans want tort reform to protect corporations from lawsuits. They have already greatly reduced our rights as citizens through bogus tort reform. Why do you need caps because of frivolous lawsuits? You don't, they get tossed out by Judges quickly and there is not an epidemic of them because lawyers don't get paid on frivolous cases. The caps are for legitimate cases where the Defendant was a very bad actor such as a drunk doctor amputating the wrong leg. The insurance companies do not want to pay! You ignore these types of groups, or side against them and they are gone!
