(203,041 posts)Not sure whether he really is that out-of-touch or is walking a fine line - but the fact that he thinks he can persuade those who wanted to hang him on January 6th to vote for him, he's even more deluded than he sounds here...

Unless you think that hes going to be indicted and have to drop out of the race

(203,041 posts)When someone portrayed him on Saturday Night Live, he had no lines, just sat there. The only time I remember him speaking was when he had no choice, in the VP debate with Kamala Harris (the one with the fly). And even then, he said nothing for himself, all he did was quote TFG. And we know how TFG feels about him now since he wouldn't violate the law and lie about the election results, yet he is looking for support from the same Republicans who wanted to hang him on January 6th!

Otherwise, your adversary turns around and beats up on you.

(45,781 posts)I see Trump voters as pliable and susceptible to strong language as opposed to Trump per se.
If Pence comes forward as a strong, confident, reliable Republican who can get the job done, I can see him siphoning MAGA votes. Sure, he may not have Trump rallies, but truth told, even Trump isn't so "Trump" anymore at his rallies.
Plus, I argue the "playground strategy" where you find the worst bully, you lay him on the blacktop, and now you're king of the playground. Pence only needs to best Trump and the crowd follows him, not Trump.
Rhiannon12866
(203,041 posts)As for Pence, he's doing just the opposite, trying to appeal to the same voters who wanted to hang him n January 6th.

What has Christie done lately for the RNC?
Christie not "Christian" enough.
Pence didn't assist TFG with stopping the vote count. Christie was silent during the entire episode.
Christie comes across as a NJ blowhard. Pence is the silent confident figure.
Watch them during the debate(s) and contrast.

(144,005 posts)Mike Pence is full of crap. Pence is attacking TFG but at the same time Pence will support TFG if TFG is the GOP nominee. In addition Pence does not believe that TFG should be prosecuted for Jan 6 or Mar-a-Lago

In other words, as the former vice president sees it, Trumps actions after his 2020 defeat were so offensive and indefensible that he should never be president again. But Pence would vote for him to be president again anyway, because in his estimation, principles are apparently less important than party.
Last night, during a town hall event on CNN, the former vice president went a little further, adding that the Justice Department should give Trump a pass on his alleged crimes, even if federal prosecutors have evidence of Trumps guilt. Pence argued that applying laws to former presidents might be "divisive," and there are "unique circumstances" surrounding Trump.
The comments came just hours after Pence said he would always put constitutional principles first.
Not to put too fine a point on this, but if Pence doesnt take his own standards seriously, why should voters?
If Pence really believed his attacks on TFG, then Pence should support the prosecution of TFG and agree to not support TFG if TFG is the GOP nominee
