(205,074 posts)However, what Thom explains is there is precedent for previous Republican presidents flagrantly disrupting the election process which certainly changed our history.

After all this time and everything we now know, we should be able to DO something, to SAY something, to pass some kind of law, to try to "make right" what has been wrongs. SOMEthing beyond just sweeping it all down the memory holes. Brighter minds than mine should be able to come up with something beyond just putting it in a history book.

(205,074 posts)I've read more about this and continuing of the war for another seven years resulted in thousands of more deaths on both sides. This is the reason that we can never allow this secret interference to ever happen again - though what Reagan did was obvious and unforgivable.

(6,836 posts)was included in Ken Burns's Viet Name documentary - that was the first I heard of it. I've known about the Reagan hostages and Iran-Contra somewhat longer. And then there was the 2000 election which Al Gore one and was too goo a person to fight for it. I'm thinking the last legitimately elected Republican President was Eisenhower.
And, yeah, technically it may not have been treason. But I would still call it treachery.

(205,074 posts)Not to mention that he began his campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, where those three civil rights workers were murdered by the Klan in 1964 - which signaled to southern voters that he supported "states' rights.' Causing the former governor of Georgia to lose the South.
